Masters of Wine to host fundraising auction
The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) is to hold an auction and dinner in November this year at Bonham’s in London “to help secure the future of the Institute”.
The event is the brainchild of Patrick McGrath MW and Fiona Morrison MW, and has been devised to raise money for the Institute’s Endowment Fund, which needs “a considerable sum” to help the organisation “increase its reach to prospective members”, and “extend its range of activities in the wine world”.
Members of the IMW set up the Endowment Fund more than 10 years ago with a fundraising auction, and then invested the proceeds.
However, this money has recently been used to fund the purchase of the IMW’s new permanent headquarters in London, which, as previously reported by the drinks business, has been fitted out to suit the needs of the Institute’s members, students, and team.
To replenish the Endowment Fund, the IMW will host an auction and dinner on 16 November at Bonhams’ flagship salesroom on London’s New Bond Street.
Hosted by the chairman of Bonhams, this event promises to “bring together a dazzling array of great wine makers and wine lovers”.
Invited guests will have the opportunity to bid for ‘super lots’ comprising exclusive experiences from the world of wine, curated and led by Masters of Wine.
In addition to the Super Lots, there will be an online auction leading up to the event, with numerous wine-themed lots curated by Masters of Wine. The online auction will remain open on the evening to allow bidders from the room and elsewhere the chance to secure these extraordinary lots.
Guests will also experience a dinner with tastings of the fine wines featured in the super lots and online lots.
The IMW is inviting Masters of Wine, Institute supporters and other friends from the global wine industry to participate. There are many ways to be involved, including:
• Contributing items to the super lots and online lots
• Donating wines to be consumed on the night
• Offering cash donations
• Helping with introductions
• Curating the super lots and online lots
