Irn Bru cocktail created in time for Burns night

A copper-coloured cocktail combining Irn Bru and Prosecco has been created ahead of Burns night on 25 January.

A restaurant in Bath, England, has created the “Irn Bru Spritz”, a cocktail containing Prosecco, Irn Bru, and Angostura bitters.

Burns night celebrates the life and work of Robert Burns, an 18th century Scottish poet. With Irn Bru sometimes called Scotland’s second national drink – after Scotch – Loch Fyne, a fish restaurant in Bath, has paired the sweet orange drink with Prosecco for a cocktail Nicola Sturgeon herself would be proud of.

It will only be available at the restaurant on 25 January, both Burns night and the poet’s birthday. However, we’ve managed to get hold of the recipe so you can make it all year round, if you’re that way inclined.

Irn Bru Spritz:

  1. Add a couple of ice cubes to a large glass
  2. Pour in 165ml of Irn Bru and two drops of Angostura bitters
  3. Finish with 125ml Prosecco and a lemon slice
