HK’s 2017 auction fever gets underway

In the first sale to kick off 2017’s auction season in Hong Kong, Acker, Merrall & Condit will highlight rare back vintages of Burgundy and classic Bordeaux.

Forty lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti are set to go under the hammer in Acker, Merrall and Condit’s forthcoming Hong Kong auction on Saturday, 14 January.

The first sale to kick off 2017, the auction will highlight classic back vintages of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including original case lots of 1999, 2005, 2009 and 2010 Romanée-Conti; 1999, 2002, 2005, 2009, 2010 La Tache; 2005, 2009 and 2010 Montrachet and a special assorted lot championing the 1999 vintage of  Romanée-Conti.

Elsewhere, there are further case lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg, Grands Echezeaux, Echezeaux and Romanee St. Vivant, with 90% coming from Octavian’s cellars in the UK.

Following on is Acker’s Featured Collection, comprising a 12-bottle case of 1990 Romanée-Conti and Domaine Leroy’s d’Auvenay Chevalier Montrachet and Corton Charlegmagne direct from the domaine’s cellars.

Lovers of older Burgundian beauties will also find Henri Jayer dating back to 1971 as well as Dujac’s 1988 and 1989 Bonnes Mares and a 12-bottle case of E. Rouget Cros Parantoux 1993.

Aged Bordeaux features largely with 1959 Lafite and Mouton Rothschild in the running as well as six bottle lots of 1959 and 1989 Haut Brion.

A further private collection also reveals Lafleur, La Mission, Haut Brion Blanc and a 12-bottle case of 1990 Petrus.

John Kapon, Acker, Merrall and Condit’s Chairman said: “This auction is as good as it gets. Joining us in person in Hong Kong are seven of the very best and most skilled winemakers in Burgundy today, men and women of this deeply committed generation whose wines we are excited to bring directly from their cellars for this auction, Roulot, Fourrier, Hudelot-Noellat, Lamarche, Hubert Lignier, Duroche and Clos de la Chapelle.”

The top three lots to look out for are: 12 bottles of Petrus 1990 estimated between HK$280,000-HK$380,000 (£29,300-£39,800); 12 bottles of Haut-Brion 1989 estimated between HK$120,000-HK$160,000 (£12,500-£16,700) and nine bottles of La Tache 1995 also estimated between HK$120,000-HK$160,000 (£12,500-£16,700).

Acker, Merrall and Condit’s auction will take place on Saturday, 14 January at the Grand Hyatt’s Grissini.
