English fizz boosts Waitrose’s Christmas

Meanwhile retail analyst Shore Capital has predicted a “sound” Christmas for UK multiples, with progress in like-for-like sales, easing food deflation and “broadly positive volumes”.
Analyst Clive Black cited recovering consumer confidence following the Brexit vote in June, adding that: “We believe that British shoppers went into the holiday season in pretty sound mood with a wish to have a good time.”
Next week will see the bulk of the Christmas trading results across the multiples and specialist retailers, with online wine retailer Virgin Wines set to announce its results the following week.
