Clos Rougeard sold to Montrose owner
Martin Bouygues, the owner of Château Montrose in Bordeaux, has acquired the Loire property Clos Rougeard according to reports.
News of the sale broke today (4 January) in La Revue du Vin de France although details were slight.
However, LARVF report did state that it was the death of celebrated co-owner Charly Foucault in December 2015 that prompted the family to sell the 11 hectare property in Saumur.
Clos Rougeard is considered one of the pioneering biodynamic domaines in France, with brothers Charly and Nady converting to organics and then biodynamics when they took over in 1969.
They were the eighth generation of their family to run the property which dates back to the 17th century.
Bouygues and his brother are two of the wealthiest men in France. As well as owning Montrose in Saint-Estèphe, Martin is head of a media empire that includes the country’s biggest broadcaster TF1.
the drinks business is still seeking to confirm the news with either estate.
