BIVB announces Bourgogne Week Hong Kong
The second edition of Bourgogne Week Hong Kong will take place from 27 February-3 March and will herald the new release of the 2015 vintage which is set to land officially in early summer.
The rundown will include the flagship event, One Day for Bourgogne Wines tasting where the trade and media flock to taste the “highly anticipated” 2015 vintage ahead of its official release in late May/Early June as well as the Chablis White Cocktail evening party.
Dedicated to helping the on and off-trade promote Burgundy wines to Hong Kong’s wine consumers, Bourgogne Week Hong Kong will also see a huge push on Chablis throughout the month of March and a dedicated social media campaign with the hashtag #BourgogneWeek.
2015 has been described as a “near perfect” vintage, with optimal ripeness and “impeccable condition” of the grapes.
In terms of volumes, certain appellations did not reach their maximum – particularly for the reds. However, the overall harvest totalled 1.518,000 million hectolitres which is still up 7% on the average over the last five years, according to the BIVB.
Commenting on Hong Kong’s voracious appetite for Burgundy wine, Jean Soubeyrand, head of the Communication Commission for the Bourgogne Wine Board said: “Hong Kong is now a key market both in terms of value, and the quality of its distribution system and the image of Bourgogne wines it promotes.
“The territory enjoyed fantastic growth in the early 2000s, and has now matured. Hong Kong is now ready to welcome the full range of Bourgogne wines, and to discover the hidden treasures that are sometimes overshadowed by more renowned appellations and which will not fail to delight new customers.
“Bourgogne Week is the perfect opportunity to sample the diversity of Bourgogne wines, across vintages that are currently coming to market – principally the 2014 and 2015.
“We hope that market influencers, both trade and press, will discover some new AOCs along with more widely known wines, which are already very popular in Hong Kong.”
