Week in pictures: Hong Kong

Christmas is almost here despite the relatively balmy temperatures. This week, Hong Kong’s wine trade were treated to a Suntory whisky tasting, a trip through Chateau Guiraud’s best vintages and warming spiced rum cocktails.

There’s nothing like a good whisky tasting to kick off the week, especially when Suntory’s brand ambassador, Mike Miyamoto is in town.

Hong Kong’s wine trade were whisked through various Suntory expressions, including the Yamazaki’s Distiller’s Reserve, Hakushu 12 year old and Hibiki 17 year old.

Delicato Family Vineyards’ EMEA regional director Jonas Hillergren dropped by Hong Kong to host a media lunch, showing a range of wines from Delicato’s portfolio. Highlights included Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel 2014, Black Stallion Heritage Los Carneros Pinot Noir 2014 and Irony Monterey County Chardonnay 2014.

An array of Chateau Guiraud’s back vintages, including the delicious 1990 and 1998 as part of its Christmas tasting in the Renaissance Harbourview Hotel (and with no connection to Putin’s alleged US election hacking which is displayed on the TV screen behind.)

Vincent de Beler (centre) Chateau Guiraud’s Asia ambassador bade his farewells to Hong Kong’s wine trade as he leaves Hong Kong for South Africa in the new year. dbHK wishes him all the best in his new venture and will come for a visit once he’s a famous winemaker!

A truly tropical escape from Hong Kong’s wintery climes of 15C, tiki lounge Honi Honi hosted a Christmas cocktail party with exotic offerings including the Hot Buttered Rum made with Bacardi 8 Year Old, Honi Honi’s homemade spiced butter, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, honey and cloves.

The week closed with a fabulous line-up of Laurenz V. ‘Charming’ Gruner Vetliner that highlighted some classic back vintages, including 1996, 2005 and 2007 hosted by Montrose Fine Wines.
