Theatre of Wine opens new shop in Leytonstone
Independent merchant Theatre of Wine is bringing its eclectic range of wines, beers and spirits to a new audience in East London with the opening of its third shop, in Leytonstone.
Independent wine merchant Theatre of Wine has chosen Leytonstone as the location for its third shop.
Theatre of Wine stocks more than 800 wines from small producers, as well as craft beers and premium spirits. The wine range includes a hand-picked selection of classics but increasingly focuses on good value wines from emerging regions such as Greece, Bulgaria, Portugal and new-wave southern hemisphere wineries.
Founded in Greenwich in 2002, Theatre of Wine opened its second shop in Tufnell Park in December 2010.
“We have always intended to open a third site, but we didn’t want to rush and compromise the level of service in our existing stores – the timing and the area had to be right,” Theatre of Wine director and founder, Daniel Illsley, said.
“We have always been a progressive retailer, so we wanted to find somewhere that would accept and grow with us. We believe that Leytonstone has the right mix of people.”

Theatre of Wine is known for its weekly tastings, which are informal open to everyone regardless of expertise. The company also provides ‘Meet the Winemaker’ tastings, as well as catering services for private events. The company also keeps plenty of bottles open at weekends for casual sampling in the shop.
“Our friendly and informal wine tastings are at the heart of what we do,” retail director Jason Millar said.
“We have always loved to put on a show and we believe in opening bottles and sharing the experience of wine without pretension.”
Over the years, the Theatre of Wine has worked extensively both within the UK drinks trade and with a growing number of partners abroad, building an eclectic portfolio aimed at both retail and on-trade customers.
Adding to its existing shops in Greenwich and Tufnell Park, Theatre of Wine Leystonstone is open now and located at 556 High Road, Leystonstone.
