New on Wine List Confidential: City Social
City Social – Wine List Confidential Score: 88.8
In a chic setting on floor 24 of Tower 42, replete with art-deco flashes, comes another strong list from Laure Patry, group head sommelier of the Pollen Street Social group.
It is well balanced with a shed-load of fine Champagne, including Jacquesson Cuvée No 737, to get the expense accounts well oiled before the main event.
There are over 30 wines by the glass, including own-label Anjou white (Patry studied wine in Angers in the Loire Valley) and 1996 Pauillac (Chateau Duhart-Milon).
Claret dominates, in fact – perhaps unsurprisingly given the largely City crowd – with some good value to be found away from the big gun names.
Far from well-furrowed paths, there are charming, idiosyncratic incursions from Slovenia, Georgia and Turkey.
