According to the winery’s Facebook post, the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the winery’s storage building, which includes an office and storage facility.
No wine barrels were damaged and “only a small amount of bottled stock has been affected. Sadly this includes the 2012 Hercules Shiraz”, the winery wrote. The wine is one of the winery’s most premium wines and is described as the “apex of its reds” on its website.
SA Country Fire Service commander, Brett Loughlin, said seven vehicles and 40 firefighters took 30 minutes to bring the fire under control and save the last remaining quarter of the stone building, reported The Advertiser.
Damage was estimated at between $300,00-$400,000.
