The Ottoman Room opens in Singapore
The latest venture from the Dandy Partnership the Ottoman Room is the fine dining addition to the recently launched Fat Prince Café in Tanjong Pagar.
While Fat Prince is done up somewhat like a dressed up kebab house from an Istanbul neighbourhood, its sister restaurant, the Ottoman Room, “is inspired by the opulence of the Sultan-era feasts” and is altogether cosier, with hanging oil lamps, flocked wallpaper and lavish seating.
Chef Hunter Moyes, who also heads up Fat Prince has a focus on sharing plates with resized portions as well as slow cooked meats and vegetables freshly grilled from the wood fired earth pit.
For hummus fans, the mezze menu includes Moyes’ signature of hummus nuanced with duck fat and lemon, artichoke hummus with fresh herbs and sweet potato hummus with chilli.
Tipple-wise, Lebanese and Moroccan wines are in the spotlight as well as premium beer from Jordan and Lebanon.
There is also a Middle-Eastern inspired cocktail menu, including Black Sea Rize with vodka, lemon, ginger Turkish tea syrup and ginger ale as well as the Ottoman Room’s take on an espresso martini – the Hard Turkish Coffee, made with gold rum, chocolate and coffee liqueur and Turkish espresso.
Creative director, Michael Goodman, commented: “We took our inspiration from the palatial mansions on the Bosporus of a bygone era, imagining the worn luxury and abandoned riches rediscovered by a new generation. You see a lot of antiques mixed in to new venues and old spaces in Istanbul.”
