Fox & Fox launches its first sparkling Pinot Gris
East Sussex wine producer Fox & Fox has added a Pinot Gris – ‘Inspiration’ Brut 2013 – to its sparkling wine range.
Fox & Fox Inspiration Brut 2013
Made from Pinot Gris grapes grown on clay-loam and greensand soil, with a small proportion of Chardonnay, Inspiration Brut 2013 is becomes the first Pinot Gris in the Fox & Fox range of English Sparkling wines.
The Pinot Gris grapes used to make the wine are grown at the winery’s Lakestreet Vineyard just outside of the historic East Sussex village of Mayfield.
“It is the unusual soil combination of clay-loams and greensands over sandstones that we believe allows us to grow and make some of the finest Pinot Gris in the UK,” a spokesperson for Fox & Fox said.
Inspiration is a traditional method sparkling wine and spends a minimum of 28 months on the lees prior to disgorging.

The Inspiration Brut 2013 is described as “subtly flavoured with the honeyed purity of Pinot Gris and with very gentle undertones of sweet spice and a whisper of ginger on the finish”.
Established by husband and wife team Gerard and Jonica Fox, Fox & Fox produces a range of seven Sussex sparkling wines: Mosaic Brut, Mosaic Rosé, Tradition Brut Blanc de Noirs, Inspiration Brut, Essence Pure Brut Chardonnay, Expression Rosé Saignée and Midnight Dark Rosé – a limited edition ‘winter sparkling wine’.
The company has been growing grapes since 2004 and producing wine since 2009. It owns 10ha of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay vineyards just outside of the village of Mayfield, East Sussex.
