Iconic Barossa wine producer Chris Ringland has added a new entry-level wine, named ‘CR 2013’, to his Shiraz range.

CR 2013, which is described as a “complex, concentrated wine”, has been released at the same time as the latest vintages of Ringland’s flagship super-premium Shiraz wines, Chris Ringland Barossa Ranges Shiraz (2009), Hoffmann Vineyard Shiraz (2008) and Randall’s Hill Shiraz (2010).
CR 2013 is available from UK distributor Litmus Wines, Noel Young Wines and CRU World Wine, and carries an RSP of £17.
Kiwi Ringland made his name in the world of wine in the Barossa Valley, studying at Roseworthy before travelling extensively. After periods of working in California and Europe, in the late 80s he took a position with Robert O’Callaghan at Rockford Wines in the Barossa.

It was at Rockford that Ringland developed his unique style and produced his now world famous Shiraz, originally called Three Rivers Shiraz, under his own name. After 15 years at Rockford, Chris travelled back to Europe and developed a number of projects with local producers in Spain and Italy.
More recently, Ringland has developed Nebbiolo and Carignan project ‘Solita’ and since 2006 has developed a Northern Barossa Shiraz project with renowned Ebenezer winemaker Adrian Hoffmann.
Ringland describes the CR 2013 as having a “classic north-western Barossa Shiraz blackberry profile, together with sweet, dark plum and jammy notes”. The palate, he added, “is all about sweet red berries, milk chocolate and subtle vanilla.”
Hedonism Wines has already snapped up the first six-litre Imperial of the flagship 2009 Chris Ringland Barossa Ranges Shiraz ever to be released from the winery. The wine, which has just been awarded 98 Parker points, will go on sale in Hedonism’s Mayfair store this December.
A small number of 75cl bottles of the same wine are still available to the trade from Litmus Wines, together with new vintages of Hoffmann Vineyard Shiraz (2008) and Randall’s Hill Shiraz (2010).
“Chris’s wines are regularly awarded with amazing scores by critics worldwide. As such they are incredibly highly sought-after in the UK, so we urge anyone interested in securing bottles to be quick,” Mike Florence, general manager of Litmus Wines, said.
