Lot 3: In memory of a pioneer: A magnum of Mas de Daumas Gassac 1986

The Guibert family bought the estate in 1970 with the first red vintage released in 1978. Met with huge acclaim; before long the 1978 was being compared with such great Bordeaux as Château Latour or Château Lafite.

Today, the estate is owned and run by second generation Samuel, Gael, Roman and Basile Guibert.

This 1986 vintage magnum is one of the only few bottles of this vintage still kept at the estate and is similar in style to this year’s vintage, with similarly great acidity that allows the wine to age effortlessly.

Aimé Guibert sadly passed away this year and so this lot is sponsored by the domaine in honour of his pioneering achievement in the Languedoc and comes in a wooden case with a handwritten note from Basile Guibert.

Established in 1900, Beaulieu Vineyard is a historic Napa Valley winery with a tradition of quality and innovation.

Founded by French immigrant, Georges de Latour, it set early standards for excellent in premium winemaking, making Beaulieu Vineyard one of the most collected American Cabernet.

Your chance to snap up a 100-pointer!

The 1990 La Chapelle is a sexy, opulent, dense and intense blockbuster. The colour remains an opaque purple, with only a slight pink at the edge.

It has an incredible nose that is full, rich, and meaty with fabulous earth, smoke, stone, and plummy, figgy fruit underneath.

It has an amazing 60-second finish, great balance of fruit and spice, structure, fruit, and a pinch of pepper.
