Californian wines to lead Bonhams sale
Bonhams next London sale later this month will be led by a large consignment of top Californian wines.
To be held on 27 October, the sale will include bottles of Screaming Eagle, Colgin and Bryant among others.
Particular highlights are three bottles each of 2006 Screaming Eagle (£4,200 – £5,000), 2009 Screaming Eagle (£3,800 – £4,500) and the 2011 (£3,500 – £4,200); a full case of 2009 Colgin IX Proprietary Red (£2,500 – £3,200); six bottles of 2009 Sloan Proprietary Red (£1,300 – £1,500) and seven bottles of 1994 Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (£1,200 – £1,500).
There will also be much Bordeaux and Burgundy including – for the fourth sale in a row – a 12-bottle case of 1988 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Romanée-Conti (£100,000 – £120,000).
Other highlights include 1986 Chmbertin and Clos de Bèze from Armand Rousseau, 2006 Georges Roumier Musigny and 1982 Petrus and Lafite.
Champagne will also feature strongly with 14 vintages of Dom Pérignon up for sale, including a bottle of the 1949 (£1,500 – £1,600), as well as two six-bottle lots of Jacques Selosse’s Lieux-Dits Collection (£1,300 – £1,500 apeice).
Bonhams’ head of wine, Richard Harvey MW, said: “After a period in which prices for Bordeaux and Burgundy have steadily risen we are now witnessing a resurgence of interest in fine wines from California with the leading estates and vintages commanding top prices.”
