Two Michelin star restaurant Hibiscus to close
Claude Bosi, the exuberant chef-patron of two Michelin-starred restaurant Hibiscus in Mayfair, is to close the restaurant in October after 16 years.
As reported by the Code Bulletin, Hibiscus on Maddox Street in London’s affluent Mayfair district will close for business on Saturday 1 October.
Bosi is reportedly working on a new project that will be announced later this year and the Hibiscus site has been acquired by an overseas operator.
Obsessed with seasonality, Hibiscus doesn’t limit itself to the confines of a menu, but rather offers a page of seasonal ingredients, asking diners to choose the number of dishes they’d like (three, six or eight), and which ingredients they would like to see featured.
In the drinks business’ new wine list ratings website Wine List Confidential, Hibiscus took sixth place with an admirable score of 93/100 for its wine list.
Driven by the work of natural wine evangelist Isabelle Legeron MW, Hibiscus picked up the natural wine baton relatively early on and has been a pioneer of natural, organic and biodynamic wines ever since.
Having worked at Alain Passard’s L’Arpège and Alain Ducasse in Paris, Bosi moved to England in 1997 and set up Hibiscus in 2000 in the Shropshire market town of Ludlow.
Bosi relocated his restaurant to London’s Mayfair in 2008 after Hibiscus gained two Michelin stars. In 2011, he moved byond the confines of fine dining, opening The Fox & Grapes, a gastropub in Wimbledon, with his brother Cedric.
This isn’t the first high profile Michelin-starred restaurant to change hands in Mayfair recently.
In March chef Phil Howard and his business partner Nigel Platts-Martin sold their two Michelin-starred restaurant The Square on Bruton Street to Marlon Abela, owner of The Greenhouse and Umu, after 26 years of ownership.
