Suduiraut launches second dry white

Sauternes Premier Cru Classé estate Château Suduiraut has launched a new ‘entry-level’ dry white wine, Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut 2015.

Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut is the second dry white wine made by Château Suduiraut

A blend of 67% Semillon and 33% Sauvignon Blanc, the wine carries an ABV of 13.6%. It has spent nine months in a combination of new (10%), first use (10%) and old (80%) barrels.

The wine carries an RRP of £13 and complements the estate’s more premium S de Suduiraut dry white, which is made with a higher proportion of Semillon and was introduced in very limited quantities of around 500 cases in 2004.

“At Château Suduiraut, we have 15 years of experience in making a fine dry white wine in small volumes,” managing director Christian Seely said.

“Our goal has always been to show that the terroir of a Sauternes Premier Cru Classé is capable of expressing itself in a top-quality dry white wine, as well as in a great Sauternes sweet wine.

Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut 2015

“To meet today’s growing demand for dry white wines of character, and convinced as we are of the quality potential of our Sauternes vineyard, we have decided to create a new wine by the name of Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut.”

Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut is made with grapes grown on carefully selected plots of Château Suduiraut’s vineyard that are ideally suited to producing a dry white wine that is “recognisably Bordeaux, but marked by the personality of our vineyard”, according to Suduiraut technical director Pierre Montégut.

Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut is described as savoury, fresh and an ideal wine to be savoured in its youth –earlier than S de Suduiraut.

On the nose, Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut 2015 offers hints of white fruits, spices and lime blossom, evolving into light oak aromas, almonds and citrus, according to Montégut. The palate offers more white fruits and toasted almond, then a lively mineral finish with grapefruit hints.

Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut 2015 is being distributed through the Place de Bordeaux.
