New on Wine List Confidential: Morito

Morito – Wine List Confidential Score: 87.6

Not a long list by any means, but one made up almost exclusively of interesting Spanish and Portuguese offerings, with wine on tap a growing feature.

Moro and Morito Exmouth Market chef-proprietors Sam and Sam Clark’s third restaurant, this time located at 195 Hackney Road, next-door to the excellent Sager + Wilde, offers a whistle-stop tour through Mediterranea with its whites and reds.

Very good to see Suertes del Marques, producer of class-leading volcanic wines from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, with its 7 Fuentes 2014 (a reference to the seven sites in the Valle de la Orotava DO, where Suertes del Marques sources the grapes for this cuvée). Honorio Rubio’s very limited production orange Rioja, Macerado, is also worth a punt and would go very well with much of the savoury-sweet southern Spanish and Cretan food on the menu.

Most wines are available by the 125ml glass, carafe or bottle, while the two excellent wines on tap (white is a juicy Verdejo; red is a fresh, ripe-berried Tempranillo) are set to be joined by a Manzanilla and fino on tap from October.
