Morrisons launches student discount
Students are set to get a 10% discount off beers and wines at Morrisons, as the UK retailer targets the youth customers base.
The pilot voucher scheme is being run in conjunction with student discount and id app Unidays and will offer 10% off a groceries in-store for signed up members of Unidays. It also applies to Morrisons cafes and petrol stations, but is not available for online orders and is not valid with use on spirits.
If the initial three month trial proves successful and is well received, it may be continued further, a spokesman said.
According to the Student Living Index research, 83% of students said that they would be more likely to shop somewhere if they received a discount, but Morrisons is the first of the big four supermarkets to offer a deal specifically targeting students (although The Co-op offers a 10% discount to holders of a NUS Extra card across its estate)
Morrisons director of local solutions Rebecca Singleton said trial would help students make their money go further. “We listened to students and they told us that they’d be more loyal to a supermarket that offered the sort of discounts that they get on rail travel, clothes and eating out,” she said.
