GCF acquires Burgundian négociant

Les Grands Chais de France has announced its acquisition of négociant house Bejot Vins et Terroirs and its vineyards in Burgundy and the south of France.

Bejot is the third largest winemaking company in Burgundy with 260 hectares from Chablis to the Mâconnais and Beaujolais.

It also owns a further 270ha in the south of France in the Rhône, Provence, Corbières as well as vineyards classified as Vin de Pays d’Oc.

Mark Kears, managing director UK & Ireland, Les Grands Chais de France, comments: “The acquisition will provide Les Grands Chais de France with new and significant sourcing in key French regions and has great synergy with our already expanding François Martenot business.”

The full details of the sale were not revealed but, according to its website, Bejot had consolidated sales of €50.7 million in 2015, selling over 10m bottles.

Exports now account for 52% of all sales and the company’s brands are present in over 50 countries.

In 2014 Bejot acquired its ailing rival Maison Corton André but swiftly divested itself of Château de Corton André, which it sold to Paul Jaboulet Ainé for an undisclosed sum.
