DRC dominates at Christie’s HK sale
Twelve bottles of 1988 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti claimed the top lot spot and sold for HK$1,347,500 (US$174,508) at Christie’s recent Hong Kong auction.
The sale was sold 94% by lot and 93% by value with a plethora of back vintages of venerable Burgundy producer, Bouchard Père & Fils up for grabs, including one bottle of Chambertin 1865 selling for HK$306,250 (US$39,661) and one bottle of Montrachet 1865 selling for HK$196,000 (US$25,383).
Tim Triptree, Christie’s head of sales, commented:
“We were greatly encouraged by the enthusiastic response from collectors, achieving very strong results from the Historic Vintages Direct From The Cellars of Bouchard Père & Fils and An Esteemed Connoisseur’s Private Collection Part IV sale. The auction provided collectors a journey back in time through extraordinary vintages from Bouchard Père & Fils, demonstrating the continued appetite for ex-cellar collections with exceptional provenance.”

Christie’s sale which was held on Saturday, 3 September shone a light on other top Burgundy producers, including Roumier, Dugat-Py, Dujac and Rousseau, as Asia’s thirst for premium Burgundy goes unquenched.
