Donations sought for The Benevolent auction
Drinks trade charity The Benevolent is aiming to raise £25,000 by hosting its first online auction, featuring lots of wine and rare spirits, cultural experiences and “wacky promises”.
Called ‘Thanks for Giving’, the online auction will run for one week from 24 November, offering the the chance to bid on a range of items from luxury wine and spirits bottles to experiences and corporate hospitality. Money raised will go toward The Benevolent, which supports members of the UK drinks trade facing financial, emotional or physical hardship.
Ewan Murray, The Wine Society’s public relations manager, has voiced his support for the initiative after The Benevolent stepped in to help his daughter.
“I would like to convey an important message to the trade: ‘The Benevolent’s ‘Thanks For Giving’ online silent auction is a fantastic initiative. Money raised will be invaluable to members of our trade who, without it, would have nowhere to turn.
“My daughter needed specialist mental health treatment, and The Benevolent stepped in to help fund this, contributing greatly to her recovery. The Benevolent has played a huge part in allowing her to get her life back on track. Anyone one of us could need their help at any time, so please give an auction lot or bid generously for one … or more!”
The charity is currently appealing to the drinks trade for donations to the auction, and to spread the word to its employees, clients and colleagues in a bid to raise awareness of and interest in the event.
“This is a ‘first’ for us and I really hope it will be a success”, said David Cox, chief executive of The Benevolent. “I know that members of this wonderful trade are passionate about their brands and passionate about the wellbeing of their colleagues too and so I hope everyone will rise to the occasion, donate interesting lots and then encourage everyone to go online to bid for items in November. Trust me, there may be some bargains!”
The auction will go live from 24 November at www.32auctions.com/thanksforgiving, and aims to raise £25,000.
