Camden vicar applies for church alcohol licence

A heavy metal-loving vicar has applied for an alcohol licence for his church in Camden in the hope that he can turn the place of worship into a live music venue.

As reported by The Telegraph, Father Tom Plant is waiting to hear whether his application to Camden Council has been successful.

Plant took over as vicar of St Michael’s Church in the north London borough in January and has begun converting the site into live music venue featuring a bar, a stage and a lighting and sound system.

He plans on hosting gigs at the church four nights a week, though sadly there won’t be a mosh pit.

The 37-year-old Nine Inch Nails fan assured concerned member of the congregation that the Gothic windows are “too high” to get smashed.

“It’s not a place to come and get drunk, but we’re not a church that shies away from alcohol. Jesus turned water into wine for a reason.

“We’re not precious about the floor – St Michael’s is a glorious place but it is faded glory,” he told The Telegraph.

“It’s part of our aim to put the church on the cultural map. We’re trying to get ourselves more established in the artistic world and we want to welcome people from all sorts of sub-cultures,” he added.
