31 Days of Riesling winners named
The winners of this year’s 31 Days of German Riesling competition have been announced.
Once again the trade signed up to bring its enthusiasm for German Riesling to consumers in July.
This year 225 participants took part representing a 35% increase on last year and a new record was set for the reach of the competition, with 60,900 consumers sampling Riesling in wine bars, restaurants and independent retailers.
In the off-trade, for its creative ideas and use of multiple channels and platforms to promote German Riesling, this year’s winner was Ake and Humphris in Harrogate (pictured).
Lea & Sandeman was the runner-up and Luvians and Le Vignoble were both highly commended.
In the on-trade, for a great selection (and success) of its Riesling by the glass, the winner was The Tate Group.
EatDrinkSleep was the runner-up and Skylon and The Jugged Hare were highly commended.
Wines of Germany’s managing director in the UK, Nicky Forrest, said: “The enthusiasm for German Riesling has been turning a corner for a while now and this year the enthusiasm from the trade to get involved has been off the scale.”
