‘Wine Olympics’ comes to the HKIWSC
This year’s Test your Palate at the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Competition (HKIWSC) has a distinctive Rio feel to it, with the launch of the new ‘Wine Olympics.’
Over 300 wines will be in the running for gold, silver or bronze medals at the HKIWSC, the three-day international wine competition running from 4-6 October, and Debra Meiburg MW has launched the Test Your Palate ‘Wine Olympics’ for people to come and taste the medal hopefuls.
Blindtaste and compare wines by country, grape variety, style, brand and even taste an entire flight, such as Italian wine, rosé, New World Sauvignon Blanc, global Cabernet Sauvignon or Champagne.
Over 30 countries have put in their best from India to Italy, Greece to Georgia and South Africa to Slovenia with the panel of judges led by Meiburg on hand to offer guidance.
Meiburg, founding director of the Cathay Pacific HKIWSC said, “An Olympic-sized tasting event, I like to think of Test Your Palate like ‘speed dating’ with wine. There’s hundreds to meet, like, love (and even reject!) until you find your perfect match.”
A one-day pass costs HK$250 and a three day pass HK$700 with all tickets including a complimentary Lucaris crystal wine glass.
Additionally, buyers of the first 10 three-day passes will gain free entry to the ‘warm up’ event, Prep Your Palate on 9 September which is a wine tasting workshop led by Meiburg in the MWM event space.
Test Your Palate will run from 4-6 October in the Chancellor Room, Level 4 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre and will start at 6-8.30pm.
