No-menu cocktail bar opens in HK
An invitation-only cocktail bar which doesn’t have menus, blackboards or any cocktail listings has just launched in Hong Kong.
It’s invitation-only to Joseph Boroski’s new cocktail bar, J Boroski
Joseph Boroski, a ‘mixsultant’ who has worked with the likes of W Hotels, Ritz-Carlton and Mandarin Oriental has opened his eponymous cocktail bar, J.Boroski, just off Soho’s Hollywood Road.
Boroski has teamed up with Sandeep Sekhri, CEO of the recently listed Hong Kong restaurant group, Dining Concepts whose IPO share price leapt almost 1,700% from HK$0.45 to HK$8.02 recently and counts drinking hotspots of Ophelia, Alto and Gordon Ramsay’s London House in its portfolio.
However, J. Boroski is a cocktail bar which defiantly doesn’t have any menus or any other cocktail listing. Instead drinks are created to suit the drinkers’ tastes by Boroski’s team of bartenders hailing from seven countries, including the US, UK, South Africa, Hungary, Thailand and Hong Kong, using spirits and ingredients not commonly found in the city.
To add to the mystery, guests cannot merely turn up expecting a drink but have to request an invite ahead of service which starts from 7pm every evening.
This being Hong Kong, the best way to secure a seat is to contact Boroski via Facebook or follow the more traditional methods of calling or emailing.
After a career of working in bars, Boroski opened his first eponymous venture in Bangkok’s Thonglor neighbourhood as an extension of his Joseph Boroski Bar & Hospitality School which opened in 2012, making Hong Kong his first venture outside of Thailand.
