Landlord renames pub Pokémon Arms
A landlord has capitalised on the current craze for capturing Pokémon by renaming his historic, grade II listed pub The Pokémon Arms, enticing gamers with free wi-fi and a 20% discount.
The Panton Arms is now The Pokémon Arms
The Welsh pub in the village of Pentraeth, formerly The Panton Arms, now The Pokémon Arms, is a Grade II- building which was reportedly a favourite haunt of Charles Dickens.
It is also opposite a Pokémon gym, where Pokémon Go players can train their pocket monsters captured in augmented reality.
Quick to notice the increasing number of gamers gathering opposite the pub, landlord Ed Griffiths decided to welcome gamers to play at the pub, and take advantage of its free wi-fi.
“The war memorial next to a church over the road from the pub is a Pokémon gym,’ said Ed, as reported by the Metro.
“We noticed kids had started hanging round outside, not causing trouble or anything but more and more of them were appearing A friend suggested as a bit of a joke that we rename the pub the Pokémon Arms. We thought it would create a buzz – there had already been an increase in people coming in but since the signs went up on Saturday.”
The Pokémon Arms has also been offering 20% off to players who’d captured over 30 characters.
