Boris gifts New Zealand minister English wine
Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson showed his faith in English wine by gifting a case of it to New Zealand’s foreign minister Murray McCully this week.
As reported by The Sun, Johnson’s assistant was pictured carrying a case of wine from Three Choirs vineyard in Gloucestershire into the Foreign Office.
Founded in 1973, in addition to sparkling wine Three Choirs produces Bacchus, Sigerrebe, a white blend dominated by Phoenix and a red blend of Regent, Rondo and Pinot Presoce among many other expressions.
Johnson met with McCully this week for talks on a trade deal post-Brexit. The pair were set to raise a glass to strengthening ties between the two nations in the wake of Britain’s historic vote to leave the EU in June.
This isn’t the first time English wine has been enjoyed by politicians. In May the British government made Ridgeview and Chapel Down the official fizz suppliers for 10 Downing Street, as Champagne was shown the front door.
Johnson, who was made Foreign Secretary by new Prime Minister Theresa May last month is covering for her while she holidays in Switzerland with her husband.
