Uruguayan wine stars at Shoreditch food fest

Premium Uruguayan wine estate Bodega Garzón has teamed up with street food market Urban Food Fest in Shoreditch, East London, to bring guests a taste of Uruguayan culture this summer.

Throughout July and August, visitors to the street food destination will have the chance to taste a selection of wines from the Bodega Garzón portfolio, with Tannat, Albariño and Viognier varietal wines on offer. Garzon’s sister brand, Colinas de Uruguay will also take over the event on Saturday 16 July and Saturday 20 August.

Bodega Garzón’s restaurant partner will also be on hand throughout the two-month celebration of Uruguay, with a menu offering delicious authentic Uruguayan dishes including the chivito (traditional Uruguayan steak sandwiches) and gambas de Uruguay.

Emulating Garzón’s estate on hillsides that benefit from the influence of the Atlantic fresh breezes, on 16 July Urban Food Fest will play host to its very own vineyard, organisers said, set with deck chairs allowing guests to relax among the vines while enjoying a bite to eat and a glass of Bodega Garzón wine.

On Saturday 20 August, sister brand Colinas de Uruguay will bring the shores of Punta del Este to Shoreditch – with a sandy beach, deck chairs and festoon lighting, along with two wines from its portfolio, a Tannat and an Albariño, which will be served at the bar throughout the Uruguayan-style takeover.

“We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Urban Food Fest this summer to give consumers the chance to experience the undiscovered food and drink destination that is Uruguay,” Gustavo Crespo, managing director at Blends Wine Estates UK, said.

“The last couple of years have seen a surge in interest in our wines from some of London’s top on-trade accounts, including Sushi Samba and The Gilbert Scott, and with South American wine and food growing ever more popular in the UK, we expect this trend to continue.

“We are excited to be one of the first to bring Uruguayan cuisine – and of course wine – to the UK consumer, and Urban Food Fest offers the perfect platform to reach foodie trendsetters and influencers.”
