The Bar Awards comes to Hong Kong
Following its success in Singapore, The Bar Awards has launched in Hong Kong to honour the greats of the city’s thriving F&B scene.
Until 31 July, members of the public can vote for their favourite venues and personalities of Hong Kong’s bar and beverage industry which fall into the following 13 categories:
- Young Bartender of the Year – open to all bartenders born on or after 1 January 1991
- Best Restaurant Bar
- Best Wine Bar
- Best Beer Bar
- Best Nightclub
- Best Bar Food
- Best Hospitality Team
- Best Hotel Bar
- Most Creative Cocktail Bar
- Best New Cocktail Bar
- The Ada Coleman Award – honouring the world’s first ‘bartender’ Ada Coleman who worked at Claridge’s aged 24 in 1899 before moving to the Savoy’s American Bar – this award champions Hong Kong’s growing list of female bartenders
- Bartender of the Year
- Best Cocktail Bar
Ada Coleman, the beloved bartender of the Savoy’s American Club, the world’s first known mixologist and creator of the Manhattan
From then, a group of judges – The Panel – will go through the public nominations and short list the nominees of each category to determine the Top Ten. The Top Ten will be made available to the public on 22 August 2016 before The Panel will rank their top five for each category with corresponding scores. The nominee with the highest points will be deemed the award winner for that category and the results will be announced at the Bar Awards Hong Kong 2016 party on 25 September.
Separately, The Lead Panel have been selected to choose The Panel members and determining the award categories and are made up of industry professionals spanning the media, bar owners and mixologists and comprises:

– Jay Khan, Epicurean Management

– Serhan Kusaksizoglu, Shangri-La Hotels Hong Kong
– Suraj Gurung, Maximal Concepts
Launched in Singapore in 2014, The Bar Awards is growing to become one of the most influential and well-respected accolades in Asia that honors the bar and beverage industry’s best and has been brought to Hong Kong by Sandeep Hathiramani of Beverage & Co and Tron Young, the founder of the Singapore awards.
This year’s Singapore Bar Awards winners (and sponsors) include Brendon Khoo from 28 HongKong Street for Bacardi’s Young Bartender of the Year; Tippling Club for The Monkey 47 Best Restaurant Bar, 28 HongKong Street for Stolichnaya’s Best Cocktail Bar and Operation Dagger for Cointreau’s Most Creative Cocktail Bar.
