Nautilus launches single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough producer Nautilus Estate has launched a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc in the UK – ‘The Paper Nautilus’.
The wine is produced in small batches and represents “an intimate knowledge of our estate vineyard sites” gained over 30 years, said winemaker Clive Jones.
He continued: “This is the result of hand-picked fruit from a single site that was fermented on solids at a warmer temperature in a large old oak cuve. The resulting wine has a more subtle fruit expression and greater textural qualities than the classic style.”
The name comes from the ‘Argonaut’ or ‘Paper Nautilus’ which while preferring tropical and sub-tropical waters is occasionally carried south by ocean currents to the cooler waters off New Zealand. The nickname ‘Paper Nautilus’ comes from the very fine, paper-thin white shells the creatures are encased in and one of which is depicted on the label.
Aimed at the independent on- and off-trades, The Paper Nautilus has an RSP of £20.99 and is distributed by Negociants UK.
Negociants UK also announced recently that it will be distributing Foley Family Wines’ portfolio with immediate effect.
The wines include Grove Mill and Frog Haven in Marlborough and Martinborough Vineyard from Martinborough.
Negociants’ managing director, Simon Thorpe MW, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be adding these three iconic wineries to our portfolio which reinforces our commitment to representing the best of family-owned wineries from New Zealand and Australia.”
