Langton’s launches in Hong Kong
Langton’s expansion into Asia will also see the acquisition of the Pudao Wines and Adelaide Cellar Door businesses in Hong Kong and Macau.
Langton’s East Asia will now be headed up by Marcus Ford, former general manager of Pudao Wines, a subsidiary of distributor Summergate Fine Wines and Spirits.
Jeremy Parham, general manager of Langton’s said: “We’re thrilled to see the launch of Langton’s East Asia. It’s been on the horizon for Langton’s to establish a Hong Kong operation for a long time, given the popularity and history of both the Langton’s Classification and Australian wines throughout Asia.”
Ford added: “What set Langton’s apart from the outset was a passion and belief in Australian fine wines, we firmly believe that the time is now to tell that story even further in Asia.
“Langton’s also delivers an amazing array of fine wines from all corners of the world and we look forward to sharing the access of this extraordinary range with our customers throughout the region.”
Established in 1988, Langton’s began life as an auction house before launching a wine classification system in 1990. It remains the world’s foremost authority of Australian fine wine with entry into the classification system based on the wines’ auction track records.
Now owned by Woolworths, Langton’s has been credited with building the Australian market for fine imported wine and also playing a key role in the international success of Penfolds Grange.
