The Walpole group is a collection of 170 of the UK’s leading luxury brands from motor cars such as Rolls Royce and Aston Martin; fashion houses including Alexander McQueen and Mulberry; silversmiths and jewelers, top end department stores, gunsmiths, furniture makers and venues such as Ascot Racecourse and the Guards Polo Club.

Chapel Down follows in the footsteps of fellow English winemaker Nyetimber as well as other industry names such as Laurent-Perrier, Sumaridge Wine Estates, Chivas Brothers, Glenmorangie, Diageo Reserve Brands Group and William Grant & Sons.

Formed in 1990 as an exchange to develop best practice and drive the development of top British brands both domestically and abroad, Chapel Down said its invitation to join the group was a sign of English winemaking’s growing prestige.

Chapel Down CEO, Frazer Thompson, said: “We are truly humbled to have been invited to join the Walpole group of luxury British brands and to sit alongside some of Britain’s, and indeed the world’s, finest brands.

“We are incredibly proud of our provenance and look forward to working with other likeminded brands to further strengthen Britain’s reputation on an international stage.”

Michelle Emmerson, CEO of Walpole, added: “We are delighted to welcome Chapel Down as a member of Walpole. Part of an exclusive group of pioneering English winemakers, Chapel Down is committed to using the highest-quality ingredients and production methods – which both respect tradition and strive to innovate – and is something we are excited to see, and taste, more of.”

The Kent-based producer is one of the largest wine estates in the UK with 16 acres under vine at its 68 acre property in Tenterden. In addition it owns a further 115 acres of vineyard near Aylesford.

As well as having a strong on- and off-trade presence in the UK, it is an official wine supplier to 10 Downing Street.
