WSET launches 3 Minute Spirit School

The WSET has launched a series of short videos introducing some of the world’s most popular spirits.

WSET adds new spirit videos following revamp of website

The WSET’s ‘3 Minute Spirit School’ aims to be an entertaining and informative introduction to some of the key spirits of the world, and is presented by industry experts including Whyte & Mackay’s master blender Richard Paterson, The Cambridge Distillery’s distiller Will Lowe, and bartender Maria Johanssen. The short films are ideal for either novice enthusiasts and those working in the spirits or bar or hospitality trade, the WSET said.

The shorts cover a range of information including production, history, tasting and serving, and have been produced to raise awareness of WSET spirits qualifications which comprises the Level 1 Award in Spirits and the Level 2 Award in Spirits.

The first three films, covering whisky, cognac and rum, are now available to view, with three more, gin, vodka and cocktails set to be released in the next few weeks.

Chief executive Ian Harris said spirits qualifications were a growing part of WSET’s business.

“This series of videos provides an introduction to spirits that is both entertaining and educational. We hope that through initiatives like these, alongside our qualifications, we will continue to help professionals and enthusiasts alike learn more about the spirits that they work with and love,” he said.

The series was produced in association with Difford’s Guide, and builds on the success of WSET’s 3 Minute Wine School series, which has amassed over 330,500 views since launching.

The series comprises Richard Paterson, master blender at Whyte & Mackay Ltd on Whisky, Joel Harrison, author of Distilled and WSET spirits educator on Cognac, Head Distiller and Vice President of Privateer Rum Maggie Campbell on Rum, Will Lowe, distiller at The Cambridge Distillery, and WSET spirits educator on Gin, Bartender Maria Johanssen on Vodka and Drinks Consultant Paul Graham on Cocktails.

Last month the WSET relaunched its website.
