Pop-up bunny café postponed
A pop-up bunny café in Islington where guests would be free to pet the furry creatures during afternoon tea has been postponed due to animal welfare issues.
As reported by the Evening Standard, Bunny Blossom was scheduled to open on Sunday and run until 11 June but has had to postpone its opening date due to negative preconceptions about the welfare of the rescue rabbits.
All of the bunnies at the café are rescue rabbits in need of rehousing. The café was designed to give guests the chance of adopting a rabbit and taking it home with them.
If the café is given the green light, animal experts will be on hand to give tips on how to care for and look after the rabbits. Entry costs £6 and children have to be aged 12 or over to be allowed in.
This isn’t the first animal-themed café to pop-up in the capital. Last March Annie the Owl bar opened in Soho for a week giving guests the chance to sip tea or coffee while petting one of six feathered friends.
Last month a pop-up bar in Soho staffed by dogs called Bar D’Alsace-tian opened for one night only where guests were tended by a team of trained Alsatians who served bottles of beer via kegs strapped to harness around their necks.
The crowd-funded Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in Bethnal Green is a permanent fixture serving tea, coffee and cake in 90-minute sessions among a clutter of cats.
