Liquid nitrogen wine ice cream launched
A family-run company from Baltimore has launched the world’s first liquid nitrogen wine ice cream, which is as boozy as a glass of wine.
Founded by Crossroad Company, each 6-ounce serving of “Winecream” contains 10% alcohol by volume. According to its makers, the product is made from “naturally sourced gourmet ice cream and craft-made fruit wines”.
Wine lovers can choose from strawberry, mixed berry, pineapple or peach wine as a base, which is mixed with ice cream, fruits and nuts then flash frozen in liquid nitrogen at minus 320 degrees Fahrenheit.
The use of liquid nitrogen helps to preserve both the fruit flavour of the ice cream and the alcohol in the wine.
The idea for Winecream was conceived one Christmas after its founders realised how much they’d like to combine two of their favourite indulgences.
The company has been selling Winecream at festivals in the US since 2104, but plans to expand the brand into the retail sphere this year, starting in Maryland.
Stores selling the ice cream will need an alcohol licence.
