Kelis to host pop-up resto in London
US singer Kelis has teamed up with London burger restaurant Le Bun to launch a pop-up restaurant in Soho.
The singer, known for her hit single Milkshake, is hoping her her South American-style arepa buns will bring Londoners to Soho House in Leicester Square, which will be transformed for the pop-up on on July 6,7,13 and 14.
While more well-known for her music, Kelis is also an accomplished chef having trained at the Le Cordon Bleu cooking school. In 2015 she released a cook book called My Life on a Plate, featuring a mix of dishes inspired by her Puerto Rican heritage including Pernil (Puerto Rican pork shoulder), Arroz con Gandules, and Shrimp Alcapurias.
Arepa buns originate from Venzuela and are corn cakes baked on hot stones in coal-fired ovens that can be stuffed with everything from cheese, meats to vegetables .
“I’ve been looking forward to bringing my cooking to London for years,” said the singer.
“This July I’m over for lots of festivals and it’s the perfect time to finally make this pop up restaurant dream a reality. The Le Bun guys are the perfect partners and I can’t wait for everyone to have a taste.”
