Fine Wine 100 rises for sixth consecutive month
The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 index rose for the sixth consecutive month in May, the first time it has seen such a sustained rise since early 2011.
The rise was small, just 0.6% above its April level, but it is also the first time since 2010 that the index has risen in May and bucks the trend for the index to fall during en primeur.
The Bordeaux first growths dominated April trading and Lafite 2010 and Mouton Rothschild 2000 were among the best-performers last month but Sassicaia’s 2009 was May’s top mover (up 8.2%) and the 2012 Hermitage La Chapelle from Paul Jaboulet was close behind (up 6.3%).
Louis Roederer’s 2004 Cristal was also one of the better performing labels.
May’s worst performers were also a fairly mixed bag; including Yquem 2007 and 2001, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 2010 Romanée-Conti and 2010 Masseto.
The worst performer was the 2010 Clos Papes which declined 6.7%.
