New York gets Tim Burton-themed bar

A bar inspired by the work of Beetlejuice director Tim Burton has opened in New York.

Beetle House NYC, in the East Village, is “inspired by all things dark and lovely including our favorite director Tim Burton”, according to its website, whose films,

Its food and drinks menu is based on Burton’s films, which include Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands and animated musical The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Cocktails include an Edward Scissorhands-inspired Fleet Street martini, a Mars Attacks We Come in Peace cocktail and, of course, Beetlejuice and It’s Showtime libations.

On the menu are Sweeney Beef and I Love It Pot Pie (Sweeney Todd), Eggs Skellington (The Nightmare Before Christmas) and Edward Burger Hands (Edward Scissorhands)

The site describes the menu as: “one of a kind, paying tribute to some of our favorite characters while pleasing your mouth with a fusion of American comfort, Latin, Italian and European Dishes.”

The bar is co-owned by childhood friends Zach Neil and Brian Link, who are also behind another New York bar which opened last year based on the comedy stylings of Will Ferrel, Stay Classy.

Speaking to Reuters, the Neil said: “If you kind of look down the left side of the bar it’s a lot of artifacts and antiques and things that we feel look like they would be in a Burton film. So it’s a lot of old books and medical equipment. Then the opposite side, the right side of the restaurant, is more movie memorabilia.”
