JD.com signs MOU with HKWCC
China’s largest online direct sales company, JD.com has signed an MOU with The Hong Kong Wine Chamber of Commerce (HKWCC) in the latest step to strengthen its portfolio outside of China.
The signing ceremony between JD.com and the HKWCC yesterday at Vinexpo
For Chinese consumers, buying online is the most popular method to purchase wine and JD.com has become one of the fastest growing online channels. Launched in 2011, the company sold 22 million bottles of wine last year – more than double its 2014 figures – totaling RMB 445.6 billion.
Signed yesterday at Vinexpo Hong Kong, the MOU will see JD.com being able to build its wine portfolio overseas and strengthen Hong Kong’s position as Asia’s wine hub.
In a separate venture, the HKWCC has also partnered up with a Chinese mobile app, 9Kacha that is built around a wine label scanner similar to Wine Searcher.
Under the new agreement, 9Kacha will develop a specific version for the Hong Kong market in Traditional Chinese through the HKWCC which will provide critic ratings on specific wines and nearby wine retail spots in Hong Kong.
