Beer-infused pizza crust gets taste test
Beer and Pizza, a winning combination that has stood the test of time, is being taken an extra step with news that Pizza Hut is trialling beer-infused pizza crust.
The Pizza Hut chain has come up with a recipe for craft beer-infused pizza dough, and their chefs have designed two special sets of topping to complement the new-look crust: the Steak Feast, and the vegetarian American Hot.
The new pizzas will be featured in their restaurants across the UK if the initial feedback is successful. However, beer and pizza lovers keen to influence the decision will need to make the journey to the Finchley Lido branch where the taste test will take place on Friday, while stocks last.
One further rule is in place for diners wanting to try the new pizza, so self-conscious diners should beware. To qualify, they’ll have to say the words “I like it Hop” to waiting staff when buying a beer from the menu
Kath Austin, director of marketing at Pizza Hut, said: “We know that craft beers are really popular right now and we’re celebrating this not just by adding craft beers to our menus, but also by adding this to our pizza dough.”
She added: “We also know that for many of our customers nothing beats enjoying their favourite pizza with an ice-cold beer, so we thought this would be the perfect culinary union.”
Pizza Hit claims to be the first chain to introduce beer-infused pizza, although it’s a well-known method that’s well-documented in cookbooks.
Creating dough from beer comes hot on the heels of the launch of a beer made from bread, as brewers and food producers tap into a current love of all things beer and craft.
