ASC hosts e-commerce symposium with Alibaba

During Vinexpo Hong Kong 2016, ASC Fine Wines and the Alibaba Group jointly hosted a symposium to discuss China’s rapidly developing wine e-commerce industry.

The event took place in the wake of ASC’s announcement that it has committed to increasing the distribution of its wine through TMall owned by the Alibaba Group. ASC and Tmall initially joined forces in 2013 when ASC opened its flagship store on Tmall in 2013.

Speaking at the symposium, ASC’S CEO Bruno Baudry commented on the continued partnership between the two companies and credited Alibaba for helping ASC achieve high sales growth online over the last three years.

“I believe the two partners will utilize each other’s strengths to provide consumers with excellent wine experiences both online and offline, and will boost the development of the wine industry online,” he said.

Baudry and Tmall’s CMO, Chris Tung also discussed new trends in wine e-commerce and online marketing and emphasized that e-commerce is not only a distribution channel but also a platform to promote wine culture, and for the industry to study the market through big data analysis.

Tung said: “As the largest third-party platform for brands and retailers, Tmall is a powerful platform where not only can wine companies sell their products but also promote their brands.

“Our vision is to expand our service to global markets and become the largest wine e-commerce platform and continue promoting wine culture and vineyard heritage.”

On 9 September this year, Tmall will host its first Wine & Spirit Festival for wine consumers and is expected to team up with over 100 wine experts and companies – including ASC – to offer 100,000 wine and spirit labels from more than 50 countries.

“Our goal is to make it significantly easier for wine lovers to enjoy world-class products from their original vineyards, have greater access to wine cultures from around the world and create a unique experience for consumers on Tmall,” said Tung.
