US$5m haul for HDH Burgundy sale
US auction house Hart Davis Hart’s annual ‘Celebration of Burgundy’ sale has realised US$5.6 million.
Held in Chicago last weekend, the sale was 100% sold and nearly achieved its pre-sale high estimate of US$5.7m.
Although it just fell short of that target it still beat last year’s record amount by US$1m, an achievement HDH said showed the market for these wines was “robust”.
Bidding for Domaine de la Romanée-Conti alone contributed US$1.8m to the sale and 23 of the top 25 lots came from the storied estate.
Other top lots included a full case of 1989 Corton-Renardes from Domaine Leroy (US$8,962); another 12 bottles of 1993 Vosne-Romanée, Les Beaux Monts from Leroy (US$13,145) and a dozen bottles of 1999 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes from Jacky Truchot-Martin (US$17,925).
Twenty-four lots from Réné Engel made US$62,677, 30 lots from Marquis d’Angerville a further US$50,190 and 44 lots of Georges Roumier US$111,792.
