The resort owned by the controversial US Republican Party presidential nominee has been granted permission to serve beer on the course at Turnberry from as early as 10am.

Councillors on South Ayrshire’s Licensing Board gave the go-ahead to the beer buggy plan, but shot down the hotel’s wish for a 2am license.

If granted, it would have meant golfers could drink for 16 hours straight, they said.

Chairwoman Ann Galbraith said: “Why does it have to be from 10 in the morning? If it was from 12pm the problem would finish”, the Daily Record reports.

Councillor Andy Campbell agreed, saying: “One of the reasons (the applicant) gave was to take in the views – but the views are limited after 10pm.”

His colleague Allan Dorans added: “I would not be happy granting these hours to anyone. In terms of serving drink, I would be against serving after 10pm.”
