See inside the cellar of the world’s most famous wine collector
Ahead of the much anticipated auction of part of his vast wine collection next month, billionaire William Koch has invited cameras in to tour his exceptional cellar.
Holding one of the largest private wine collections in the world, Koch’s cellar is laden with bottles from the world’s most famous producers.
Nebuchadnezzars of Bordeaux, shelves of grand cru Burgundy, a bottle of ancient Lafite from the 1844 vintage and even a lavatory lined with famous labels and corks are all on show.
The video has been released ahead of a three-day sale of part of Koch’s wine collection, which will see over 20,000 worth an estimated US$15 million go under the hammer at Sotheby’s in New York.
“Bill focused on the highest quality: the greatest producers from each region, together with the best vintages” for his collection, according to Jamie Ritchie, the president of Sotheby’s Wine in the Americas and Asia.
The auction will feature wines from what Sotheby’s has called the “most highly regarded vintages of the 20th century”, including 10 bottles of Château Mouton Rothschild 1945 that could fetch up to $120,000 in total.
