Pair indicted for French Laundry theft
Two men have been charged for their part in transporting wine stolen from the famous Californian restaurant The French Laundry.
The pair were arrested on Wednesday this week.
The famed Californian restaurant was robbed towards the end of 2014 and US$300,000 worth of fine wine – mostly Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Screaming Eagle – was stolen.
Most of the wine was recovered in January of last year in Greensboro, North Carolina.
As reported by the San Francisco Gate Chronicle, two men from California, Alfred Georgis and Davis Kiryakoz, have been arrested and indicted indicted for their part in transporting stolen wine from the French Laundry robbery as well as wine stolen from another California restaurant and a wine merchant in 2013.
A spokesman for the FBI said they are potentially part of a much wider gang involved in similar fine wine thefts.
One of the men is charged with conspiracy to transport stolen goods and both are charged with transporting stolen goods.
They face a maximum of 10 years in prison and a US$250,000 fine.
