A range of still and sparkling wines under the Kit’s Coty label is to be released over the next 12 months, starting with Kit’s Coty Chardonnay 2013, which will be launched on St George’s Day, April 23 2016.

The Kit’s Coty Chardonnay 2013 will be focused at the premium on-trade and independent off-trade with a RRP of £19.99.

Mark Harvey, managing director at Chapel Down, said: “We are profoundly excited about the introduction of the Kit’s Coty range.

“Here the magic of ‘terroir’ combines with the highest levels of viticulture and winemaking to produce truly world-class wines.”

Winemaking

Chapel Down acquired the North Downs land from which Kit’s Coty’s fruit is grown in 2007, and 95 acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Bacchus have been plated..

Its grapes are whole-bunch pressed before undergoing wild fermentation from yeast strains naturally found on the grapes or within the winery. The wine is then fermented in third use oak barrels.

Josh Donaghay-Spire, Chapel Down winemaker, said: “I am thrilled to be launching the range with Kit’s Coty Chardonnay 2013. This enticing, limited production wine has rich aromas of apple, apricot and buttered toast with hints of nutmeg.

“On the palate it has layers of flavour and creamy texture which lead on to the long, intense but fresh finish.”

One response to “Chapel Down launches single-vineyard range”

  1. It’s great that English wine continues to make good progress and single-vineyard wines are the next logical step, IF the site justifies them. It worries me a tiny bit that the site is at most 9 years old. But Chapel Down obviously have the pedigree and clearly know what they’re doing, so I guess they wouldn’t have done this, if they didn’t believe in it. And I also think they’ve done a great job with the label. 20 quid? will be interesting to see how it does.
