Brown’s launches multi-sensory cocktail menu

Building on the trend for story telling in cocktails, Brown’s hotel in Mayfair has launched a list of multi-sensory cocktails inspired by the world’s seven continents.

The Donovan Bar

Launching on 10 May at the hotel’s Donovan Bar, the Around the Globe menu is presented on seven cards scented with an aroma evoking the continent it represents.

Guests are encouraged to take a whiff of each of the cards and choose a cocktail based on the smell they like the best. Created by bar duo Damian Kwiatkowski and Riccardo Vecchio, the cocktails themselves come in quirky receptacles, from glass teacups to tiki totem poles.

Cocktails cost £18 each. The bar will be selling packs of the scented cards in engraved silver holders that entitle the recipient to the whole set.

Africa

Inspired by the pineapple – a symbol of wealth and exoticism in Victorian England – the cocktail, served in a banana leaf, blends Bacardi Gold with pineapple syrup, banana liqueur and chocolate bitters.

Antarctica

Based around the scent of mint, this decidedly chilly cocktail features Belvedere Vodka refreshed with crème de menthe, lemon bitters and a spoon of absinthe. For the full Antarctica effect, the drink is served in an ice block garnished with moss.

Asia

Inspired by Asia’s fascination for flowers, which reflect the delicate and ephemeral nature of life, the bartender will serve the cocktail in one of three china cups depending on how he perceives you.

Cheerful guests will be given a yellow cup, energetic guests a red cup and those perceived to be powerful will be served the cocktail which marries Star of Bombay gin, cherry bitters, violet liqueur, oolong tea syrup and grapefruit zest, in a black cup.

Australia

Based around Australian Finger Lime, which grows in the subtropical rainforest and coastal border region of Queensland and New South Wales, the Australia-inspired cocktail features Dalmore 15- year-old whisky, finger lime bitters, cinnamon syrup and green apple liqueur and is served in a blue jagged glass being nibbled by a shark.

Europe

Evoking the aroma of an English country garden in summer, the European effort tips its hat to the garden strawberry, first bred in Brittany in 1750.

Served in a dainty glass teacup and saucer complete with umbrella, the cocktail mixes Grey Goose VX Vodka with strawberry liqueur, homemade blackcurrant and hibiscus syrup and orange bitters.

North America

Paying homage to the beauty of Bourbon, the tiki-themed cocktail is garnished with oak leaves and served tall in a totem pole glass, and blends Hudson Bourbon with woodland pine liqueur, a touch of honey and Angostura bitters.

South America

Inspired by the delicious smell of coffee, the heady South American sip features Patrón Silver Tequila, Dominican tobacco liqueur, a teaspoon of freshly ground coffee, vanilla syrup and lime zest served in a Mexican skull for full effect.
