Brewdog goes ahead with Ballast Point beer
Brewdog has released the beer it created in collaboration with Ballast Point, despite cutting ties with the US brewer when it was taken over by Constellation Brands.
The Scottish craft beer and bar brand has called the new brew ‘Ship Wreck’, the product of what Brewdog calls a “retracted collaboration” with Ballast Point.
It was announced in November last year that Ballast Point would be taken over by the Mexico-based global drinks company Constellation Brands in a $1 billion deal.
Brewdog said it would stop selling Ballast Point beers at its bars as a result of the takeover, claiming that the US craft brewer “sold out”.
However, Brewdog has decided to go ahead with the launch of the beer, saying it didn’t want to waste the investment it made.
“The hard work and imagination of our brew team deserved to be heard, irrespective of the misguided decisions of others”, the company said.
Ballast Point isn’t the only beer producer Brewdog has fallen out with in the past.
Last year the company also decided to cut ties with Camden Town Brewery following its takeover by AB InBev.
