Bordeaux château available to rent on Airbnb

Château Paveil de Luze in Margaux has opened its ornate gates to the public and made itself available to rent on Airbnb.

The Cru Bourgeois estate is thought to be the first both in the Médoc and the Bordeaux region to be listed on the property sharing website.

The Château has been in the de Luze family since 1862 and its current owners have been planning to open the estate up to the public for several years.

“We’ve been offering tours and tastings for the last few years, but wanted to go further and allow travellers to experience the true life of a winemaker,” said co-owner Frederic de Luze, who is also chairman of the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc.

Guests will be received by a member of the de Luze family, who will act as a guide during their stay. Rooms with red, orange and blue colour schemes are available to rent.

Breakfasts, lunches and dinners will be prepared by the château’s in-house chef and served in the dining room.

Meals and wine tastings featuring classed growths are included in the rental price. During their stay, guests can make the most of the facilities at the château including a park and swimming pool for sports and relaxation.

“The way people travel has changed and people now want to discover and experience châteaux and their surroundings in the same way they do cities like New York, Lisbon and Buenos Aires,” said co-owner Catherine Luze.

“Nowadays people want to stay with the locals and experience their lives,” she added. Those interested in wine can book private tours of the cellars and vineyards.
